Chimaera at CURAC 2026: New Perspectives on AI in Surgery

Three days in Munich, familiar faces, and many new contacts: During our first time exhibiting at CURAC, our focus was on personal exchanges regarding AI and computer- and robot-assisted surgery.
From October 8 to 10, we had our own booth at the 25th Annual Conference of the German Society for Computer- and Robot-Assisted Surgery at TUM Klinikum Rechts der Isar.

Surgery is still a relatively new field of application for us. Through our project work at the Surgical AI Hub Germany, we are increasingly focusing on surgical video data and its AI-assisted analysis.
CURAC was therefore a great opportunity to learn about the latest developments and engage in dialogue with people from the fields of medicine, research, and medical technology.

We were particularly pleased to reconnect with old acquaintances from the scientific community. We also made new contacts and discussed the topics currently of interest to the community – and where we can support research with our expertise in medical image and video processing.

At our booth, we also had the opportunity to showcase Chimaera ImViA: our web-based ecosystem for the annotation and analysis of surgical image and video data. It was great to introduce Chimaera ImViA to an interested audience of experts and companies in the medical field and to discuss specific challenges.
Of course, there was also time for an espresso break here and there.

The conference theme, “Responsible Engineering – our innovations will shape the future of healthcare,” ties into a topic that is central to our work: responsible AI development. Our contribution to this effort is traceable data and structured workflows that support the development and validation of AI applications.

We’re bringing back new perspectives and many points of contact for further discussions from Munich. We look forward to learning more about this field of research and contributing our expertise.
Many thanks to the CURAC team and all our discussion partners for the open exchange and the warm encounters!
